Sink in the Garage - it's not Glamorous!

Most of you know our kitchen is under construction!

Yes, we've now moved 100% of our kitchen into the garage.

In the process, we took out the original double, stainless steel sink from 1978.

I always said I'd get another deep, single-bowl sink, so for now, my new sink is my laundry tub set up in the garage!

We added a cool IKEA basket to separate out the silverware (easy for the kids) since we don't have a dishwasher. (I love IKEA!)

It's not glamorous, but I've never heard of a glamorous kitchen remodel. Have you?

In our previous home, we had the most wonderful ceramic, single-DEEP sink. It was my favorite as I bathed our babies, did a lot of canning, and it held large pots and pans!

What kind of sink do you have, and if you could get a new one, what would it be?

Single, double, farm-style, stainless, ceramic ...  or one and 1/2 bowls?

Maybe you'll sway me from my original idea!

It may not be glamorus, but it is only temporary as you say and surely a lovely kitchen will be on the other side of this time. As my Mother says, "offer it up"... :)

We have a double solid surface sink. I like it, but I know they are always coming out with better products.

Also, I know a lady who did her dishes in the bathtub for two years, during a kitchen remodel!

When we remodeled our kitchen a few years back, I was determined to get rid of the shallow double stainless sink and get something "better". We thought of the white sink, but friends have one and it shows scratches. We went with black granite and the first 2 that we bought were cracked when we pulled them out of the package. I ended up going back to stainless...with a much deeper bowl of course. I love my stainless because it's so easy to keep clean and shiny and it will never "wear". However, IF I had a country kitchen I would definitely have a big Farm sink! ;)

my sink is very deep and large stainless, with a tiny single sink where the disposal is on the side. if I could redo, I would make sure the smaller sink was bigger and/or the disposal was in the big sink.....but the big sink is wonderful as it holds ANY of my dishes, and was a great bathtub for my niece when she visited

I had a regular double stainless sink and switched to a solid surface white with a big side and a small side. That was a mistake. The sink got scratches in it and didn't stay white. I also hated that tiny sink. I switched back to stainless and have a big side and small side but the small side isn't tiny and the big side is really deep. I love it!

I LOVE IKEA TOO!

Here in Washington I have a wonderful single sink that is deep enough and nice and wide. I love that I can fit my cookie sheets in it and big pans. At the condo I have a deep double sink that I keep threatening to change out to a nice single big sink!

Hi! Your remodel sounds nice and isn't it great to have your choice in the matter. We moved to this new home 2 years ago and so have what the builder put in. Thankfully it is a nice deep, stainless double sink. I love to do dishes as I am working in the kitchen and try to keep it clean and neat because it is a small area. If I had a choice, I think a deep farmhouse sink would be great.

I love the sink I have. I have a double stainless steel, the 2 sides are equal width and length, but one side is deeper! I love it because it is the best of both worlds---It's deep enough for my canner, bathing babies, and I still have a wash and rinse side. Or a stack 'em up, but the garbage disposal is still free to use. Add a high rise faucet with a telescoping spray, and a separte hot water dispenser---it is a hard working, easy to keep clean, multi-use sink.
Hugs from the plumbers wife (lol)

I love IKEA too and just posted today about a chest of drawers we got there recently. http://nolonger25.blogspot.com/

I actually quite enjoy the old flatpack stuff! And they have such nifty ideas about extras, I got some drawer organisers which I'm loving! Hopefully they can keep me a bit more organised!

Good luck with the kitchen!

Double stainless. It's the way to go! No stains and easy cleanup. What type of counters are you going to have? If you have granite, I would go for an undermount sink.

I like a double sink, but would love a deeper one, one with the solid front apron--like a farmstyle sink, only with a divider. Alas, I make do with my 45 year old stainless steel one!

Double stainless, extra deep! The only thing I would change is to have one undermounted. (Mine currently is not and it's not as easy to wipe things into the sink.) The other thing I did was to install an extra tall faucet to make it even easier to get large pans and baking sheets under it. In my humble opinion, stainless just can't be beat - it's indestructable!

My kitchen remodel took five days, from demo to cabinetry install, to tile, to granite. The team worked so fast that I wanted to french kiss every single on of them...not really. : )

It's been one year since our kitchen remodel (and no, I've never heard of a glamorous remodel either - ours certainly wasn't!) and I have never regretted my acrylic(cheaper and quieter than porcelain)DEEP single sink... I was coming from a very shallow double stainless and felt like I went from a kiddie pool to Olympic diving pool! LOVE.IT! Definitely keep your original idea! I'm excited for you and to see the before/after pics!

Me again, ignore the "get your html codes here".......I pasted that there as an example and forgot to delete it when I was done.

At least the sink link works.

Well, if money were no object then I would have the kitchen of my dreams which would include a farmhouse sink; soapstone countertops and real wood floors.

---- sigh -----

While updating our kitchen after a pipe burst in the upper floor, we did dishes in the bathtub. That's the cleanest our tub has ever been, I made sure it was santized daily!

During the remodel/reconstruction (?) I had asked for a SS sink, but my husband and brother thought I would like something different.

We have a deep, 9 inch, double-bowl enamel sink that has a neat feature. It has a cutting board that fits over one of the bowls perfectly, along with a high grade plastic drainer that fits the other side. One of the sinks has an irregular shape that accomodates pan handles.

I really do like what they picked out.

We've just got the basic builder's edition sink, but in a former home we had a deep one with a small shallow side where the disposal was-I loved it, wide enough for a pan, deep enough for our baby's first baths!

I think that sink is the one thing I miss the most from our first home!

I love my sink! It is made of E-granite and is wonderfully deep. It has two bowls but one is longer than the other so it fits longer pans or casserole pans. I would buy another one and probably will in our next phase.

I posted pictures on my blog. They can be found under my building category, probably November or October of last year. Egranite is supposed to be very durable, stain and chip resistant.

I would LOVE a double, deep, ceramic sink...or maybe stainless steel. Either way, deep and double. Like you said, perfect for large pots and for bathing babies. :)

When we remodeled I chose a single bowl ss sink (franke orca to be exact). Love it!
