No-Flour Barney Butter Cookies - & Giveaway!

Last night I was intent on not burning my Barney Butter cookies!

I followed my family out into the garage, where my husband’s office is, to have a “family discussion.” It’s funny – our kids are going to grow up and reflect back on discussions we’ve had out in our 3rd car garage! Some – well, great! Interactions with good news, answers they want to hear, the positive stuff. And some – err – well, the kids would say they received too many “lectures” from their parents out there – cell phones were confiscated and restrictions were laid out – to their detriment!

It just seems to be a room, away from the house, where there are whiteboards plastered on 3 of the walls, and where we try to give our kids visual life lessons!

Last night’s talk was a positive one. No one was in trouble!

So, out the door I went. I told myself – 7 minutes, 7 minutes, 7 minutes. The cookies will be done in 7 minutes! Why do I think that I will remember these things!?

I’m always burning something
About 30 minutes later – burnt cookies!

I was so mad – because not only did I waste precious Barney Butter – I hate wasting my time! The kids informed me they like burnt cookies (go figure!) and in the morning, there were only 2 left!

What is Barney Butter?
It's just like peanut butter but better because it's made from almonds! My friend Jennifer is the master Barney Butter maker – I’m so impressed! (Check out Barney Butter recipes, here!)

What makes Barney Butter different?
With Barney Butter you get the same kind of peanut butter creaminess you grew up loving (or super-chunk if you like crunchy), only better with less than ½ the saturated fat of peanut butter, and more fiber, calcium, iron, vitamin E and magnesium than peanut butter. And that’s not all – Barney Butter is manufactured in an Almond Only Facility - no chance of cross contamination with peanut dust or peanut particles- which is a great solution for the peanut-allergic. Dieters and athletes love it. But everyone really eats it for the taste.

Barney Butter Giveaway – 3 winners will be picked!
Leave me a comment and tell me if you are a Peanut Butter or Almond Butter family? And what is your favorite way to eat it?

Make sure and leave a viable email address if you do not have a blog. Winners will be announced this coming Monday night.

My family LOVES apples and sandwiches and smoothies and cookies – with any kind of organic peanut or almond butter! But this is our new favorite! And look at the cool snack-sized packets (90 calories) that my kids have taken to school with them? I’ll be sticking some of these into the winners' packages as well!

Spread the word
S-P-R-E-A-D the word, and your name goes into the drawing twice! (Let me know if you post this giveaway on your blog). Also remember that you’re welcome to grab my button on my sidebar of my blog to use on your site! It’s as easy as copying and pasting the code into an html/java gadget on your blog! Click and paste!

No-Flour Barney Butter Cookies
1 cube butter
1 ½ cup sugar
1 ½ cup brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 16 oz. jar Creamy or Chunky Barney Butter (or peanut butter will work)
6 cups oatmeal
2 ½ tsp. baking soda
1-2 cups chocolate chips
Cream butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla together in a large mixing bowl

Mix in the Barney Butter and baking soda

Slowly add oatmeal

Add in the chocolate chips

Roll and place on cookie sheet - flatten with a fork

Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes, or until done

Oh, and how does hospitality play into this post? Besides our family devouring these wonderful treats, my neighbors were delivered these little plates, with the sample snacks. (We kept the burnt ones!)

When we make cookies in our home, it’s just what we do – we share!

Almond butter is the best! My kids still prefer peanut butter. I had not seen Barney brand butter. We just grind it in the machine at Whole Foods. Can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks!

I am sooo intrigued about this Almond butter now. I heard about it for the very first time last week!

So I think I can safely say that I will become a big fan of Almond butter!!

Thanks for the recipe Sandy!

we love Peanut Butter, never tried the almond stuff so I'd love to win some to try it out. I love to eat it by itself, straight out of the jar ... or on english muffins or with bananas or apples ...

I love almond butter with apple slices. I never heard of Barney Butter but I've been living in Switzerland for 2 years! I will try these cookies when I move back to the U.S.

OH how I LOVE Almond Butter! I would choose that over peanut butter but I can't afford to buy it all the time. My daughter doesn't like peanut butter at all but if Almond butter is in the house she asks for that. I've never seen Barney Butter before, can you make these cookies with any Almond Butter?

Rhonda said...

I've never even heard of almond butter before.

I love peanut butter. I especially love to be the first one to open the jar and will eat the first scoop all on its own. Mmmmmmmmm.

I had a friend who moved away, sniff sniff, who made all her own almond butter and it was fabulous...

I'd LOVE to have some Barney Butter! I'd see if it tasted as good as hers ; )

Oh I have got to try that recipe. It looks so yummo! I actually LOVE Almond butter but can't usually afford it so I resort to using peanut butter. I need to just make my own since I have a Vita Mix that will do the job.
Blessings to you Sandy

I LOVE Barney Butter and buy it online at www.BarneyButter.com. Use these cookies to make ice cream sandwiches or break them up and drop them in vanilla ice cream--amazing! I eat this stuff straight out of the jar with chocolate chips. It is dense nutrition and so I love it--so do my kids. Like I say, it's not healthy unless you eat it--and my kids eat it! They won't touch the regular, grainy almond butter and I love that this is no-stir and no-fridge.

I have never had almond butter...nor have I ever heard of it before now. I guess I'll have to look for it in the grocery store.

Since it's just Dear and I at home these days I avoid making cookies cuz it's just Dear and I and we'd eat them all but DUH! What was I thinking? I could take a good lesson from you, make the batch of cookies, save just a few for Dear and I and give the rest to my neighbors!! I always love your hospitality ideas Sandy!

Wow... those cookies look GREAT. I'm hungry for one now. Haven't tried almond butter, but I might just pick up a jar. But I'd love to be entered to win!

Sandy,

The cookies look great! Just wondering if you can purchase Barney Butter at the grocery store? I live in the mid-West and haven't heard of this item before.

I've never even heard of Barney Butter. Good grief, you'd think I live in a cave or something.

So I have to say my favorite is peanut butter. And my favorite way to have it is in bed, as a snack while I read. Two simple peanut butter sandwiches...because I have to share with Chelsea. Dogs LOVE peanut butter. LOL

What an intriguing recipe. I must find this stuff!

Thank you for this fun giveaway.

This is my first time at your blog and I love it!

I have never tried Barney Butter before, but the little packets are so neat!!!

I buy our peanut butter from the deli so it has that extra fresh taste, but I would like it a little creamier.

You know my son is allergic to all nuts except almond but I've been unable to give him almond butter due to the cross contamination. I've never seen this product in Canada yet but will definitely be keeping my eyes open for it.

Congrats on the new gig too!

ikkinlala said...

May Canadians enter? We're mostly a peanut butter family as it's more widely available here, but we've tried almond butter and cashew butter in the past (and one time, as a kid, I tried making walnut butter... it tasted good, but I think I almost wrecked the blender). We use it in a lot of different ways - one of our favourites is in a pasta sauce.

I love almonds but have yet to try almond butter. I headed over to the Barney Butter site and wouldn't you know, they have NO retailers in Florida! I'm not much of a peanut fan.

I am a peanut butter girl! My grandma got me hooked on peanut butter banana sandwiches when I was a kid and I still eat them from time to time.

I've heard great things about almond butter but have not yet tried it. I'll have to keep my eyes open for Barney Butter the next time I grocery shop. If you say it's good, then it's got to be worth trying!

I love my cookies chewy or crispy. I just love cookies!

I would love to try the almond butter! I am a gluten-free and I can actually make the cookies you made as long as my oats are GF. This would be a nice change from the PB I eat. We are a PB family because most almond butter is not good and creamy.

I'm dying to try the almond Barney Butter, since my 2-year-old is allergic to peanuts -- and she's starting to catch on that we're still eating PB&Js every day.

Mmmmm, almond butter sounds yummy! We use natural peanut butter for everything in our house - I have 2 children under 6 so it goes on about everything! :)

Yum! My daughter will only eat almond butter, she HATES peanutbutter but the rest of us like both. I have never heard of Barney Butter, we usually buy Maranatha brand peanut and almond butters. I have wanted to try my own almond butter, I'll have to check out the recipe you linked to. My fave way to eat peanut/almond butter is by the spoonful with a glass of organic milk!

Almond butter is a great way to get absorbable calcium, especially if you don't do dairy. Our favorite way is to pair a big spoonful with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Eat it off of the spoon, then down goes the o.j. It also works great in peanut sauce (would that be almond sauce??) and regular peanut butter cookies. (Costco has a great deal on organic almond butter.) Oh! And almond butter is a great addition to smoothies...great protein/calcium boost.

I have 2 little girls that are Type 1 Diabetics that LOVE to snack on almonds and their doctors say this is one of the best foods that anyone can eat (plus they can eat a TON and we don't have to give any additional insulin). As typical little ones, they love PB&Js, but the idea of being able to give them the benefits from almonds and the yummy sandwiches they love would be fantastic. Even if I don't win, I'll be doing what I can to find this product. Thank you for sharing!

I have never heard of this butter, but will now definitely check out the grocery store for it.

Only one of my teo girls is a peanut butter eater, but perhaps the other one may enjoy some almond butter.

I love a peanut butter and dill pickle sandwich. My sister and I both love them...sounds a bit funky, but really is yummy.

As always, love your blog and your fun giveaways.

Would love to try Barney Butter! We use peanut butter here daily. Our grandson has 2 pieces of whole wheat toast, spread with lots of butter (he's skinny as a rail!) then a layer of natural peanut butter, and then a bit of honey. That's all he'll eat for breakfast, but I would love to try something a bit different.

The almond butter sounds divine, though I've never had the pleasure. We're definitely a peanut butter family here!
