Sisterhood

There’s a special kind of freedom that sisters enjoy. Freedom to share inner most thoughts, to ask a favor, to show their feelings. The freedom is simply to be themselves. –Unknown

Sisters who work together, play together and just enjoy being sisters together
- now that is what I call sisterhood! It's not really something someone can see, yet we can reach out and touch it. And we touched a little bit of it together, this last Easter weekend, as we passed down the torch of sisterhood to our daughters. One thing that my sisters and I take seriously is this: We know that Motherhood is God's highest calling. And we put our all into it!

On Sunday, my sister and I cooked, set the table, and had fun in the kitchen together -with our daughters - creating an Easter feast for our families! We were out of town together so we divided up the meal, keeping it very simple, and added Easter flair to our table with candles and beautiful springy napkins. The best times are always found when friends and family gather around the table, so this was an Easter for us all to remember.

Since each of our girls are the only daughters in their families, it's our hope that they will always treat and love each other like sisters do. They have a special bond, and when we are gone we hope they will remain close. They don't know exactly what it's like to have a sister - but they do know what it's like to have each other.

My daughter often asks me what it was like growing up with sisters, and I turn to her and say it's hard to explain. Except that sisters are just always there. It was more than just having a playmate growing up - it was someone who understood me and really knew me. Someone who really cared.

Throughout the years we've worked together, played together, and cooked together. We've celebrated together, laughed together, and have even mourned together.

In all circumstances in life, we just know how to be together. Because that is what sisterhood is all about.

The bond between sisters is sometimes tightly woven, sometimes loosely held, but never broken.

You all are beautiful!
I never had a sister to grow up with, so I love seeing my two girls be "sisters" and pray that they'll always be close until they're old and gray!

You certainly do have something very special in having a sister of your own. I've grown up with brothers and no sisters, boy cousins and raised two sons.
I have so wished for a sister of my own because of the wonderful and mysterious bond between the ones I've seen. All my best friends have sisters and daughters, kind of funny eh? The wonderful thing is that I continue to remind myself that God knew all of this. He knew what I needed in my life. I am so very thankful for two daughter in law and now a grand daughter (even though the grandson has just as important role) and last but not least I have one very close friend who has promised to be my sister and through these women in my life I feel incredibly blessed.
woah, didn't mean to take up so much space.

Love the post on sisters. I have one sister and we aren't really that close. Not like I'd like. My girls are the only kids so I'm teaching them to be sisters who love each other...it's just not okay to treat your sister the way you see others treat theirs...are they perfect at it...not in the least, but I know they truly love each other and love being together...so much so that I'm wondering why we're even building them their own rooms someday, they may just end up together in one room.

Mmm, nothing like sisters... and I am blessed to have two dear ones.
My daughter always wanted a sister too and she finally has one in her sister-in-law. They are so close and I am thrilled that they were friends even before her brother married her into our family!
So praying your daughter too will have two very special "sisters" someday.

Love what you said...we (sisters) just know how to be together! I'm looking forward to seeing my two sisters this weekend - we don't see each other much - living in different states!

Thanks for your reply to my inquiry on Balcony Girls...you should defintly write a book.:)

My oldest sister became my legal guardian, and is still the first person I want to share things with. Yes, sisters are priceless.

I love those pictures! The top one was simply gorgeous!

I hope my girls will have an unbreakable bond now and as they grow into adults. I'm not particularly close with either of my sisters, and I want that to be different for my girls.

Beautiful post Sandy! I do not have a sister, but when my second daughter was born, my heart leaped with joy that my girls would always have each other.

The three of us have so much fun together!

Great photos. I have a sister but we are not nearly as close as my own two daughters. My sister was a bit of a rebel growing up (still is) and is sadly not a professing Christian. However, my own two daughters exemplify what I would pray for in sisters, they respect each other, speak kindly and fondly of each other, and enjoy life together. While they are 3 1/2 years a part and in different places of life, someday I expect them to be the best of friends sharing the joys of homemaking and motherhood together. I cry just thinking about their closeness. I feel so blessed to be their mother!

Happy Wednesday!

Sandy, I've been thinking a lot these past few days about how to make our family gatherings more about true celebration, than the tense and difficult struggle they have become. I really enjoy reading about the ways you make such loving and welcoming gestures - I have a lot to learn. Lisa x

I have only one sibling, and she is my sister. There are no words to describe how precious our bond is. You have done a wonderful job in your tribute to "Sisterhood"

What a beautiful friendship and relationship you must have with your sisters. Something to truly cherish!

So did you & your sisters get along growing up? I didn't have a sister, so watching my girls' relationship is so neat. But at the same time, I worry when they don't get along. I know siblings are going to fight, but I have a friend who hasn't spoken to her sister in years and I don't want my girls to end up like that as adults!
