Abby's soccer team came over last week for a swim party.
At the last minute I decided to make my "trough" dessert for the girls, because it feeds a lot and is always a big hit.
My friend had borrowed my trough (which is just a planter box!) the day before and returned it with leftover cake (perfect since I don't have an oven right now).
After filling the bottom with ice, then plastic wrap, we cut the cake up into cubes.
Scooped out the ice cream (2 pints).
Added whipped cream and a few bananas. Sprinkled with M&Ms and Wah Lah! A trough ready to go!
My friend Cindy and I carried it out to the girls (best to eat outside where they can make a mess!) with plastic spoons and paper towels. And the girls dug in!
Good friendships, sunshine, water, imaginations, laughter, yummy food and full tummies.
I'm all for nurturing healthy relationships for my daughter!
And this kind of party just makes a mom feel good!
I'd love to hear if you've tried my Ice Cream Trough in the past?
If you grew up with Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor, do you remember the Pig Trough?

What a yummy snak,it made me hungry for ice-cream at 7:00 in the morning. LOL Looks like the girls had a great time together.Have great day.
Oh my goodness! That looks too yummy!! :) No Farills? where I grew up, but we had a Swansons Parlor and they had something similar to a trough, it was called a Volcano...I remember my friend and I trying to eat that, it was enormous! Oh my, LOL.
What a cute idea! Great slumber party idea, too!
What a funny – and fun – treat!
I grew up with Farrells ice cream too..I loved their floats!!!
I love the "trough" however, I would have to scoop it out and eat in bowls...I couldn't eat out of the same thing but I am really wierd about things like that. If my kids or husband take a sip of my drink...I can't drink it then!
Looks like a fun group of girls!

I'm with Sandy Toes. The first thing I thought was 'germs'...the second thing I thought was 'yum' :)
Your ice cream trough sounds like a hit for sure! I only wish I'd known about this idea when my kids were younger!
I remember Farrells...remember the Zoo!?!
THat is just a precious idea!!
Hugs!

I love it. I am doing a girls class and think that I will share your idea with them. Thank you!!
Huh, yeah, great idea if not for the germ factor...
We did this growing up too! :-)
Oh, I remeber Farrel's (or Pearl Street is what is was last called) I never ate the pig's trough, but my husband has quite a ribbon collection for "making a pig of himself"!
Yummy! We should do this with our youth group!
Lovely thing to do for them and looks like they loved it!
This looks like SO MUCH FUN!! I just thought of an excuse for a party so we can have one in the very near future. A planter box, you say? Love it!!
...i did this once years ago for a den of cub scouts...only i used a new gutter...boys eat more...even little boys!!
Great party idea!
I DO remember Farrell's - such a fun place!
Love this! I think you have posted this dessert (or similar) before and I love the idea! Especially when you have a bunch of people ready for dessert! :)
That trough looks delicious! If it was here right now, and oh how I wish it was, I'd make a real pig of myself.
Loved Farrell's black and white sundae-yum!
Cute idea.
I love this idea! What fun!
I remember Farrell's! It was my special birthday place. And I always got to pick out some jawbreakers from the candy store on the way out.
Thanks for reminding me of such fun memories!
Oh, I remember Farrells!! And I do remember the Pig Trough but I never ate it. And I remember the Zoo as another commenter mentioned.
I loved the candy dots on the way out!
What a fun memory, thanks!
