Laryssa Herbert's "Re-Do" GIVEAWAY!

Eggs are a symbol of new life.

And that is exactly what took place in my bedroom as I brought out my summer bedspread (using what I had), and changed the art on my walls.

This re-do gave my bedroom a fresh, new summery feel, thanks to Laryssa Herbert's fantastic artwork!

Laryssa Herbert's art was perfect for the color of my light, aqua bedroom walls, which I painted 4 years ago, a color that tied in well with our pool, which we see out our bedroom slider.

I chose three of her prints to frame in black frames from Target ($12 each), and hung them above my bed.

I added 2 Target pillows.

It was a very inexpensive "re-do," using what I had and adding a few accessories, changing the whole look and feel of my bedroom!

Answer and win
Speaking of eggs, answer this question to be eligible to win!  It's easy!

Do you feel like you know your neighbors well enough to borrow an egg?

Feel free to elaborate.

As a mother of 5 and constantly on the go, I feel so lucky to have neighbors that are retired and chicken/egg enthusiasts. We have called or ran up several times to request eggs. Recently, our neighbor, Jerry's lovely, well doted on chickens were killed by native raccoons. Never the less, he assured me, with a heavy heart, that if we ever need eggs, they would have plenty on stock of the store bought kind in case we ever needed one or two. What great people!

How very beautiful! I love the subtle change. The colors in your pillows really blend well with the pictures.
Now to answer your question. Not only do I feel comfortable but I have borrowed more than just eggs. We always seem to have what the other needs in a pinch. She borrows from me and I her. Here are just a few of the things I've borrowed. Of course eggs, sugar, milk, oil, can tomatoes and I'm sure more. She's borrowed refried beans, almonds, egg, onion, green pepper and I'm sure more. So as you can see we are perfectly comfortable with asking for not only eggs but whatever it is we might need? LOL.

Great article! It inspired me to use some great artwork my 3.5yr old brought home from school last month. I also appreciated the article on Crosswalk about not waiting to have a clean house before entertaining, how liberating! I don't have a spotless house and I often obsess over my carpet with a hubby, a 3 year old and a 3 month old :)

Up until 2 yr ago, I could borrow almost anything from my neighbors. Since moving into town, I hadn't gotten to know my neighbor. But that's changing. We share plants and have spent some time lately in the garden swing. So, yes, I think she'd lend me a cup of sugar.

I love the colors in your room and would love my name to be put in the hat for the prints. Thanks.

We are living in a rental this year while we build our dream home. I have met some of the neighbors but not the ones next door. Yes I am ashamed to say it!
I love your soft aqua and the rest of the colors in your re-do. I think the eggs would look great anywhere and can think of lots of places to put them in my new house!

I have one neighbor I would borrow an egg from. Not often, but in a pinch.

We just moved into our house in January and defintely don't know our neighbors enough to borrow an egg. Only one neighbor has come over to say "hi" and most of the others are a mystery still.

Most definitly Yes! My "neighbors" are my son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. When we "downsized" several years ago, we sold them our big house and 10 acres then we built a smaller home on the remaining 10 acres. I know they would loan me an egg. We each have an "open door" policy and it is great! I just recently found your blog and I am so enjoying it.

I feel like I'm cheating. Since my neighbors are my brother and sis-in-law, uh, yah, I know them well enough to borrow ANYTHING. In fact, we've been known to sneak into each others' house and steal an ingredient even when one is not home. We do leave a note, so technically it's not stealing, right?

Most often borrowing IS an egg!
Your prints look great on your aqua walls.
~ I would love to redo the area in the kitchen/keeping room where I have my little writing desk with laptop.

Definitely! My neighbors are currently taking my trash down to the curb (I'm big pregnant, my husband is on crutches) and so they're more than just egg-worthy neighbors.

Beautiful colors in your bedroom. My master is the room in our house I most want to re-do. I can't decide what direction I want to go in (colorwise or otherwise), so I love being inspired by the rooms of others.

We, too, have great neighbors! We are blessed to be able to borrow cooking ingredients, let them hold a key to our house or just have dinner with. It's a blessing!

Inksstillwet said...

I love the way you've tied in the colors in the pictures to match the blue in the pool and pillows!

Yes, we have amazing neighbors! God knew right where to put us when we bought our house in our neighborhood. I've borrowed oatmeal, eggs, oil, you name it. One neighbor came and slept on my couch when I had to go to the emergency room. Another neighbor gave me the first fruits from her garden recently. I could go on and on, but I'll stop now. Yes, I love our neighbors and their generosity!

Love the redo. I am just needing a "do" in our bedroom. We have lived here 10 years and it is the only room in the house that hasn't been painted and decorated yet. Pitiful I know. I need some inspiration.

We love our neighbors too. Last thing I borrowed was cornstarch because my daughter had just used it all making that oobleck stuff.

Just yesterday God blessed me through my neighbor Jane! Our neighbors are nice enough but not very approachable as far as borrowing an egg or anything. I've been praying about it as I've felt isolated and lonely, especially lately as we've had a lot of sickness at our house. Most of our friends are in a different town near our church. I needed kleenex and juice and prayed about who to ask. I thought of Jane, two doors down, who has seemed genuinely nice recently. WELL, Jane happily went and got groceries, plus popsickles, plus flowers, plus a card that was so sweet it made me cry, plus she is bringing us supper tonight! Thank you God, for putting me in touch with a wonderful caring Christian neighbor! God cares for His own!

Yes, we borrow eggs, sugar, milk, etc. from our neighbors. We were so close to our last neighbors that we didn't even knock and would raid each others' pantry or fridge even when the others weren't home! Holly

That is a great question! I do feel comfortable enough to ask my immediate neighbor, although I haven't ever done that. All the others, no. I've been here a long time and feel like that is probably my fault for not reaching out more myself. So this question is a good challenge.

I am about to move to another home, though, and the sellers have told me that it is a very warm, caring neighborhood. I hope to contribute to that myself.

And I love your bedroom makeover. Those prints are gorgeous! It would be great to have some new art for the new home! :)

We live on a cul-de-sac and all of our neighbors are like extended family ... there is even *family drama* at times.

We have lent a hand to all of our neighbors and they have helped us out on more than one occasion. we all watch each others homes, babysit each others kids, provide food as needed, etc. We love out little court.

Won't you be my neighbor? We just recently moved into our 1st house - we have neighbors only on 1 side - he is a mechanic and has done MUCH work on both of our cars and they have 2 little girls - we have provided the girls with lots of new clothes and many a care package of free stuff that I get from couponing and our puppie play together. Not only would I borrow an egg, but absolutely anything that I need. They have come over early morning out of milk for the girls and we have done the same for coffee creamer. We borrow and share lawn items - kinda like scratch my back and I will scratch yours. The house next door is for sale and we clean up the yard after a thunderstorm and bring back up the trashcans after pickup. I have seen these prints on many blogs and would be so honored and blessed to have them for myself - well and for my neighbor also. :)
Thanks,
Nicole~

We are surrounded by very kind neighbors who we can count on for anything from an egg to a life saving procedure. (okay, have not actually verified that one) And an extra benefit... the in laws live close and their chickens give fresh eggs every day if we want to go get them.
Love the art work. It's fun to update a room!

Well, sign me up on this one! I'd love to win (hi, Laryssa!). I feel like I know probably 2 neighbors enough to borrow an egg from them, the others, not so much. One neighbor, I borrow tools from them quite a bit & they are great people. Would love to have a closer neighborhood, but it's just not happening.

I'm obsessed with Laryssa's prints. I just ordered four of them (the egg and feather ones!) and I love how they look on my living room wall. I could easily find a spot for two more! Okay, now on to my chance.......unfortunately, I could never really borrow eggs from my neighbor. Thing is, they are never home! They work faraway and the only evidence that they live there is late at night we can see the lights on.......a little sad, right? I wish we had a more close-knit community! ursula at uswood1@optonline.net

My neighborhood has changed lately and I really just have one that is special and we call each other frequently borrowing stuff...food, stud finders, paint etc. Her husband started my mower a few times, they helped me bail water out of my basement several years ago (a TRUE friend there)...whenever she makes cookies she brings me some, as do I. And, now that my grill is broken, I have an open invite to use theirs! Great re-do by the way~

I absolutely feel like we could borrow an egg from the neighbors at our end of the block. I'm grateful that we have a group knows each other, shares with each other and just generally looks out for each other. Of course, I would have to add conversation time to the recipe!

Love the money-mindful redo! Tying the colors from the outside view inside is a great idea...

Yes, I do borrow eggs (or whatever) from my neighbors from time to time when I'm in a pinch and count it a complement when they borrow back! In fact, being vulnerable enough to ask to borrow an ingredient has opened up opportunities to get to know other neighbors I don't know as well. People are usually more willing than we think, and being willing to ask has paid off in new friendships/communication in our cul de sac.

Well I guess I never really thought about asking my neighbor for anything. My in laws live 7 houses down, so if I need anything, they bring it over on their golf cart!! I'm lucky!! Great give away. Keeping my fingers crossed. You did a good job on the decorating. Looks nice.

I love your redo! My bedroom needs painting and I am thinking blue. I have had blue before and most recently BM Zenful. Have to use that SW coupon!
As for eggs, I have several neighbors that I would and have asked for eggs! In fact, one "more senior" couple used to give us their egg yolks weekly for many years, because they were only using the whites! I didn't always know what to do with them, but I never said no!

Ohhhh love her stuff!

I don't have the neighborhood set up to borrow an egg, but when we used to live in suburbia a girlfriend/neighbor and I would often borrow an egg or sugar.

I don't really miss it terribly. I love the tranquil country life with lots of trees and wildlife. It's worth driving for eggs or just going without. ;)

When we first moved in 2 of my neighbors came over, one with cinnamon rolls (delicious) and the other with banana bread and they both said, "we are the type of neighbors where you can come and borrow a cup of sugar" so I definitely know I can count on them!

BTW- my living area is painted the same color and I LOVE it!

@clarescoffee said...

love the prints, also love the bird silloutes, as far as the question, unfortunatly we do not know many of our neighbors (like i remember as a kid we knew everyone on the block) but the woman across the street and the couple next door have been very friendly, though we don't socialize together, we get each others mail when some one is gone on vacation, we have been lucky enough to have the ones across the street keep the dogs for us for a few days

I live on an island, population,50. There are no stores here at the moment; all of our supplies are brought on by boat, which is weather-dependent. It has been so long since I stopped by and it's lovely as usual! I love the prints above your bed and the color scheme is so soothing. I think I know my neighbours well enough to borrow an egg but wouldn't do it all the time I guess. One way to find out!! Have a lovely day.

My neighbors just so happen to be friends that we go back YEARS with! Courtney was a sorority sister of mine -- I met her 15 years ago. My husband has known her even longer, since high school!
