First off, that is a gorgeous basket of goodies! Would love to win something like that.
Okay, in regards to your question I think I'm a bit of both. I generally don't have a back up of gifts "waiting" BUT I am always keeping my eye out during the year and will pick something up for someone if I find "it"! The only thing wrong with buying it too early is that I have a hard time NOT giving it to them early! LOL
Thanks for the giveaway my friend.
I'm going to go tweet about it.
Hugs.

That really is a nice looking gift basket!

I tend to keep gifts for small children around - I have a stack of books, crayons, Play Doh and various other toys around. However, I don't stock any adult gifts or specific gifts.

I like to shop for the occassion when it happens, but I would like to be a little LESS last minute, if you know what I mean! Love the basket!

I keep a gift closet, but it's filled with primarily gifts for birthday parties for my kids' friends. I buy toys and books on clearance at Target, Homegoods, and bookstores. I do have a few adult gifts in there, but I usually shop last minute for those.

I rarely have gifts on hand, just no space to store them all in my small house ... guess I'd say I'm a last minute shopper.

This looks like an amazing giveaway! Thanks! Kathy =)

As others, I tend to be somewhat of both a last minute giver and an organized one.

I like to keep small things I pick up here and there that are priced well and use them to add to a gift or combine if I don't have time to make it to the store.

But I also love shopping for something that really matches the personality of the receiver.

Beautiful baskets!

Generally speaking I'm a last minute shopper, BUT if I happen to find a gift that I think would be perfect for someone, I pick it up and put it away for them.

Love the gift basket. I am a last minute shopper - but would like to work toward having things on hand. I love your site. I am still hesitant to entertain at home - but you are motivating me. Thank you.

OH I love that bowl!
Is it possible to be both? I live in a fairly small town, so good gifts are not readily available. I keep a drawer of baby gifts and general gifts like frames and stationary sets, but for a special gift I have to plan ahead get it while I am in Charleston. That always ends up being a bit last minute.

Wow! What a neat surprise for you Sandy..I would love to open the door to find that basket! I have done a little stowing away of baby gifts, not clothes cute unisex things, also, fleece that sings to me at the fabric store, so that I can make one of those cute blankets when a baby shower comes up. I need to do this more often, but storage room is always an issue! thanks for the great giveaway.

At times I will have a gift or two on hand but mostly I shop for a gift a week or so before the... party, shower, birthday, celebration, etc. Not necessarily a "gift closet" nor a "last minute shopper."

I am organized, but I keep gift-giving simple, green, and personal by buying a Tis Best charity gift card when I give gifts. Recipients spend the Charity Gift Card by donating to a charity they believe in, with over 200nonprofits listed. You can print the card or just send an e-mail, leaving no carbon footprint at all. I love caring for the earth while I care for my friends and family!

I keep some gifts on hand. I have a couple of Rubbermaid tubs full of them in the closet. I usually buy them for a specific person when I can get them on sale or at a garage sale (like new) and then put them away until the occasion. I usually end up with more than I need for the person, but I would rather have that than nothing and usually I've gotten great deals anyways.

The gift basket you received is beautiful! Especially that little packet of chai peaking out! :)

This is so fun! What a wonderful prize! I have a dresser drawer specifically saved for stashing gift items. I pick up things when I'm out and see them on clearance. I recently looked through my drawer and put together a lovely wedding gift for just $9. The original price tags equaled $58! And..I didn't have to run out last minute.

OOOH!!! I'd love to win. I *used to* keep a small stash of cute little gifts - not a closet worth, by any stretch of the imagination, but a few little things. I don't do that anymore, as I really didn't find I needed it that much - it was an emergency backup, and as such, I found that the stuff I had in it was too general to really suit those I'd be giving to. So I shop when the need arises, though I try not to be so last minute as to be purchasing on the way to the event/house, LOL.

(I do have a small stock of gift bags, wrapping paper, and tissue, as well as some blank cards - but not the gifts themselves.)

That IS a REALLY nice basket! Whoever wins the giveaway is going to have some kinda fun picking something out!

Blogged about the giveaway here.

I have a plastic container that I stock. I usually shop after Christmas so that I can get the most bang for the buck. I do a lot of making my own baskets. I also try to shop all yeard for x-mas that way I'm not in a rush and I don't settle for a gift...Jo

I have gift closet well actually they are large baskets with lids and set along the top of the hutch on my desk. One basket is for kids, one basket is for scented items like soaps, candles, etc., one basket is for general gifts.

I have so much fun adding to the baskets when I find things I like...especially if I pick them up on clearance.

It really helps to have these on hand when it's late and the stores are closed AND I need the gift like NOW!

What fun it would be to win a basket...they are so cute! I'm never stuck if I get invited to a last minute event or party. I just dig in my chest of drawers and find something. Thanks for the chance at winning.

The Blissfully Happy Housewife said...

I have a "gift closet" that is actually a box...but I pick things up here and there and tuck them in there for when a gift is needed in a moment's notice. I have learned that more often I go to that box to get something out for a hostess gift, rather than birthday gifts. I try to tuck neat napkins and special candles in it...things that are used by many.

I tend to be OVER organized when it comes to gift giving. I start my Christmas shopping in AUGUST!!! Yes, you read that correctly. It's a little obsessive...but I just hate to be rushed. I like to make sure the gifts I give are special and meaningful...not just something I picked up in a rush.

The basket is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I loooove the ribbion....what a special touch!

I do occasionally buy something like a garden flag or teapot or something that I save for a gift...not knowing who that will be, but lately I have been so disorganized that I have to run out last minute. And :cringe: I usually have to get a gift card. My husband is 1 of 10 kids and that translates into like 45 kids I have to buy for yearly for bdays...I also have to do adults too usually- unless someone announces they don't want to be bought for. And so I have to exercise a strict budget of $10 or less. A lot of times I find something cute and cool for $10 but without the time to do so, it's a gift card that wins! I try to be creative tho! Like an ice cream shop gift card or gas cards for the boys. The other younger couples do the same so the kiddies end up getting a ton of stuff. Currently waiting in the wings : A garden flag, a little infant onesie, and a decorative plate. :) not much!

What a wonderful gift basket!! I would love to be organized enough to maintain a gift closet, but honestly I do like to buy gifts for people, specifically with their tastes in mind. Additinally, we are always trying to battle clutter in our home, so keeping a gift closet wouldn't necessarily fall into our current goals of decluttering.

I am ALWAYS last minute and on the way to the party but I am hoping to change that someday!

I pick things up all the time to have on hand. My staples are stationary and candlesticks. I love shopping at Tuesday morning and I always look for things for my gift closet. Am I organized...ask my secretary...NO way!

I've always loved the idea of a gift closet, but with four children around, those gifts wouldn't be safe. So I am a last-minute shopper for safety's sake.

I do have some gifts on hand, but I can also be the last minute shopper. Sometimes I make the gifts that I give. That is a gorgeous gift basket with some very neat items. The coffee cup caught my eye immediately. Thanks for offering this. Jackie

I do a bit of both. I have a gift box that is full of items for adults, children and babies. However, I will also go buy something last minute if I don't seem to have something that will work for the gift occasion. :-)

What a fun giveaway! I do have a gift collection but over the last year have slowly been paring it down. It had started to get out of hand. Now I like to keep just a few kid gender neutral gifts for those last minute birthday invites.

I try to keep gifts on hand, but many times that doesn't happen.

I do both -- I have a closet with little things that are good for pick-me-up presents or small thank-yous, and I shop for the perfect presents for husband, sister, kids, MIL...

I am a last minute shopper!

Once upon a time I was incredibly organized. I'd spend the time picking out the perfect gift for the person...and I'd shop all year long. I try to do that still, but the budget is tighter these days...which means I have to get more creative. My oldest daughter's friends enjoy baskets with bath goodies, heaven knows that I adore them and I love to give them...and for her friends, the Dollar Stores work very well.

That is the most wonderful basket to give away...so generous.

I do both. A few years ago a very nice local gift shop was having an amazing sale. I stocked up on beautiful notecards and various other things that make nice hostess gifts. But I still find myself sometimes rushing out to buy last-minute gifts, especially for baby and bridal showers. Thanks for your beautiful blog!

What a beautiful basket!!!!
And I have a gift closet...I learned a long time ago that I have to have one. We get paid once a month and usually birthdays or other occasions would pop up during that last "broke" week of the month...so the gift closet has saved me many times!!!!

Amazing Basket! And Amazing Giveaway!

I have every intention of stocking up a closet with gifts. A friend of mine did that and I always thought it was a great idea! That sure would save me the pain of last-minute shopping....or worse yet...no gift at all!

I'm not a shopper though, so I never know what to buy and am worried that the person won't like what I gifted them.

I am a last minute shopper with intentions of becoming a gift closet person!! I love to shop for deals, and should stock up for easy gifts!

I am terrible at buying gifts! I unfortunately fall into the last-minute gift shopper category and can't quite figure out how to change that, much as it bugs me!

Rebekah said...

I love to give personal gifts that are heartfelt and reflect the receiver. However, I do have a stash of "generic" gifts should an occasion spring up on me.

Simple Life of Me said...

I do a little of both. I keep kids gifts on hand when they are usually on sale or clearance - just so I have something on hand for a last minute party for the boys to attend.
I also am a last minute shopper when it comes to baby shower, wedding shower and adult birthdays. I just want to get something that is in style and current.

I have so little time to shop that if I find a neat little trinket that would make a good girlfriend gift I will purchase it and put it in my gift cabinet. Pretty cookbooks or nice tea towels are good things to keep on hand. People that I find it difficult to find gifts for will get last minute purchases. Gift baskets are fun!

although i'm extremely organized, i'm a last-minute shopper because i like to find gifts that suit the recipient. i guess i should say i'm a last-hour, nay, last-DAY shopper. :)

I love the idea of having gifts on hand that I can chose from when needed, but I more often than not go out and buy a gift whenever I need one. The only time I've had gifts on hand is when I've bought toys in a great sale and know I can use them for my daughter's friends when she's invited to their birthday parties!

i am definitely a last minute scramble gift giver!!! I would love to be so organized and have gifts on hand - a great goal. =)

I am a last minute shopper for sure, any long term planning just means more opportunity for things to go wrong.

I LOVE my gift closet! We buy things we like when we see them and then have them for gifts when they are needed. Really makes those last-minute gifting requirements easy!

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

I do not have gifts on hand. If I'm in a pinch, I can give some garden clippings (if they garden), bake something yummy or one of their favorites, or make something. I have so many art & crafts supplies.

Christine said...

I'm a bit of both depending on the season. We like to plan ahead for things like teacher gifts (we usually make them) and gifts for the service people in our lives (we always bake for the mailman and garbage man), but sometimes will wait to find something that is more suited to each individual person on our list. That basket is GORGEOUS!

I genreally keep a gift box of items I pick up throughout the year. Generally, when I buy them, I have a certain person in mind for it. then I generally will add a few "touches" to the gift.

What a lovely basket! It is beautiful.

To answer your question, I would like to have gifts stockpiled, but never do. I typically shop for the event, but typically not at the last minute (unless it is a last minute invitation!). So, I guess that makes me a last minute shopper.

What a wonderful giveaway!! I try not to be a last minute shopper, but it happens now & then.

I am always on the lookout for something I think my friends would like or a good deal that can be used as a gift. Sometimes an event sneeks up on me and I have to look for a gift closer to the person birthday, etc.

By the way I found your site via nester.

For very specific gifts, I go out and buy something. But if it’s a thank you or teacher appreciation, I usually have Bath & Body Works on hand to put together a gift bag. I buy from them when they have the annual sales and it makes things a lot easier!

Anonymous said...

I have several hostess gifts on hand always, but then I usually end up picking up something else more personal. They have come in handy, though, and I'll continue to purchase great sale items and tuck them in the closet for that purpose.

I tend to shop as I need the gift-however I LOVE having my gift box handy-and pick up things randomly when something catches my eye.
Recently we have been having some financial difficulties-so I had to create an entire gift out of the gift box-and I put it all into a basket I recycled and it came out beautifully!!!!
So it pays to be prepared!
Thanks,
Colleen

I pick up gifts as I find them year round, but I always end up doing some shopping at the point of need as well.

I have a friend who shares my love of reading. We only get together about twice a year, for her birthday and for mine. Whenever I read a good book, I go out and buy it for her birthday. And she always seems to love it! It's so fun to buy something for someone who's so easy to buy for.

I do have a gift closet, although it is fairly low-stocked at the moment.

I electronically keep tab of gifts to buy via Google Calendar and Amazon Gift Lists. It's helpful when I want to buy online, too.

Thanks for the contest!
