I love to keep fresh flowers in my kitchen window.
When I'm standing at the sink - cooking, doing dishes, cleaning up - it's wonderful to look up and see God's beauty right before me.
I like to keep a candle or some kind of flowers in my kitchen window to keep it cheery.
Except when allergy season hits, flowers like these ...
... have to go on our back patio to be enjoyed (one husband + one son = bad allergies!)
Even if you don't have flowers growing in your yard, have you thought about asking a neighbor or a friend, who has an abundance, if you could cut a few?

It would be a great way to meet your neighbors, or a way where you could be neighborly in return!
And a great way to be a friend!
What's in your kitchen window? And do any of your family members suffer from allergies?

I usually have some cut flowers, but I always have at least a candle. It definitely takes away from the stack of clutter behind me that I need to sort through!
I adore the thin vase in your first photo. I must look for one of those. I'm the one in the house with allergies and have been suffering miserably with them this spring.
Awesome giveaway on the previous post, but please don't feel too bad for us renters. My walls aren't rental white, but rental off white, and I love them. I feel with my light walls it's like having a fresh clean canvas to decorate for my little nest. Would I rather own a home? Of course, but since my husband unexpectedly passed away recently, that is impossible for me now. And due to today's economy, many others will be joining me in rentals. Being the resourceful and creative women we are though, we'll make the best of the situation and create beautiful homes whatever life brings our way. ♥
There isn't much going on in my kitchen window but I planted flowers all around my front deck and then made a special place for the birds and butterflies. I can see it all from my front window of my house. I just love flowers. I posted a picture of my birdbath display here if you want to see it.http://homesteadersheart.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-ignored-them-right-to-death.html
Hugs.

I once loved to keep tiny tea roses in the kitchen window. Now I keep herbs to go with the veggies we converted all the gardens and beds to - these are hard times and I bive all this food and herb away to help others. Whatever spac we have to plant is dedicated to this now.
Pretty flowers. My kitchen window is the "view" of my yard. There I can see my beautiful lilac bushes. None of which I can cut - we all have allergies here. DH & DS are on meds but I'm pregnant & can't take anything. We are pretty bothered by all the pollen here right now...thank goodness for cent. air! I usually have cut flowers from the farmers market in the summer. Allergies are usually not that bad. But I've also got a cat that "likes" flowers - to pluck. Oh well! Enjoy your beauties!
I enjoy cut flowers in my window in mason jars...right now we have some flowers in the window....love them! Miller suffers from allergies....poor thing.
Right now, an empty vase, dreaming of holding flowers. Two empty coffee cups wondering when java will visit. Thanks for asking. Oh, maybe even a lovebug carcauss or two...today is dusting day!
My kitchen window is a bay window, and it has my 4 African violets and 3 Christmas cacti. With the flower pots in the window I don't have room for a large vase, but I have a small collection of test tube vases and tiny glass bud vases for little flowers.
My husband and I always dream about our "country home" that we hope to get one day. I want the kitchen sink to lookout a window onto the backyard where the kids play. I would probably keep an ivy in water like my mom used to. Right now my sink looks out onto my living room and the kitchen in the window is too low to the ground to put anything on with a 2 year old running around.
This time of year my kitchen window sill is usually lined with plump tomatoes, ready to be peeled, sliced, salted & peppered, and devoured. Sometimes on a sandwich with bacon and lettuce. :)
I love me some bluebonnets, too, and did you know? Tulips are the only flower that KEEP GROWING even after you cut them!? They're the perfect flower for your window!
I have an african violet in my window. She's old (about 15 yrs or so), but she's still happy!
I always have a candle, a prism and a little concave stone where I put my rings when I wash dishes. This week, I also have a single purple tulip in a yellow chicken creamer. Fortunately, no allergies here -- sensitivies to some strong scents but no allergies!
No adequate sills in Washington but I do have a wonderful Maple tree to look at that reminds me of our Creator. In Cali I don't have a kitchen window or yard or neighbors with yards but I do like to have fresh flowers on the bar behind my sink usually from the farmer's market :0) Thankfully...no allergies yet except for some lactose intolerance. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!!
Right now it's bare, but it was full of our little seedlings until just the other day. We started tomatoes, zucchini, and pumpkins from seed. Happily, they're now in the garden!
Usually it's bare to give me the best view of the kids playing in the front yard!
Our kitchen window sill is always full of kids projects they want to display for me - depending on the season. Right now, I have a collection of seedlings they have gotten from school and sunday school.
My window sill isn't that deep over the sink, but it looks out over my lovely garden! I also try to keep fresh flowers either near the sink or on the kitchen table, and sometimes a pot of herbs nearby also! :) We all have allergies, but mostly to tree pollen & grasses, not flowers thankfully!
Also, thanks for your post about the online conference! I am going to purchase my ticket! :)
I have a window over my sing, but it doesn't have a window sill -- too close to the sink, leaving me enough space to put a cutting board up to dry! lol
But, I do get to see my back yard from the window, and the neighbor's behind me.
To bad my backyard is just a flat piece of grass. The gardens are too far to the side to see!
Lilacs!
our state flower, and still gorgeous after a solid week of fragrance.

I was so excited to see my name at the bottom of your post today. I love fresh flowers. It has been very rainy here, and some fresh flowers would sure brighten my window or kitchen counter. I have been suffering w/ the worst sinus infection ever, and the Dr. believes it has been brought on w/ my bout w/ allergies. They want to do allergy testing in a couple of weeks to see what is going on. The past 2 years have been the worst for me. Jackie
I currently have a bean plant seedling that my son brought home from preschool on my kitchen windowsill.
:)
The flower box right outside my kitchen window allows for me to have flowers without the worry of allergies indoors.
I just planted some in the window box this last week. Lovely...
I have vases in my window. Your flowers are amazing, so pretty.
One of the most challenges aspects to our current house for me is that there is no kitchen window, which makes that corner of my house dark. I have brightened to over-the-counter area, with a cute hand-painted key box. It is green and has a charming farm scene on it. That gives me something wonderful to look at while I am doing the dishes, etc. I also have a Happy Lite in there for brightness, because darkness affects my soul.

Thank you very much for the "A Woman Inspired" ticket.
I am excited, I have never won anything online. I truly enjoy your blog!
I just found your blog. In my kitchen window are the blue birds of happiness figurines (in blue glass). One for each of my baby birds and my husband. The light filters through them. I love it. I also have some cut flowers from my garden too. Staci
