Outdoor Spring Cleaning!

My only request for Mother's Day weekend (instead of a gift) was that our family work together on outside projects, getting our backyard and patio ready for summer and entertaining!

My dream came true!  I love my family!!

And jumping on board of the tail end of Simple Mom's Spring Cleaning Party ...

I decided to take my spring cleaning outside.

Share the cost
Not only did we plant, mow, blow, trim and rake - we used our half-owned power washer.  Yes, a few years ago we went in with our friends and purchased this from Costco - a perfect way to save money on a larger-priced item!

Clean it off
We removed almost every piece of furniture from our patio to power wash it.  All those little friends (bugs) camping out this past winter went bye-bye, as my husband power washed them away!

Keep it fresh
The kids freshened the de-composed granite.

And cleaned the pool, putting the cover on to heat it up!

Ahhh!  So fresh and ready for springtime fun!

Thank you, Simple Mom, for your simple ways and ideas, and for encouraging all of us moms to have a plan!

What will you do to spruce up your backyard for springtime entertaining?

I'm so happy to announce that GiBee has won the Food to Live By organic cookbook! I was looking through her blog and came across actual pictures of her garden beds! It looks like GiBee, from Kisses of Sunshine, lives in the city, too!

Congrats, girl!

We still have to wait a little while before we can ready the backyard for summer entertainment as a redstart is currently nesting in a tiny basket on the porch of the garden shed. :) In addition, we will also have baby ducks paddling around on the fish pond this year.

I love your backyard! My son always insists we say bye-bye to the bugs too. He doesn't mind seeing them out in the yard, but he isn't happy to find them on our chairs or tables. I don't blame him.

Lovely yard, perfect for summer living!

I'm working on cleaning up the gardens a little at a time. Yes, there are really plants under those dead leaves and weeds. Your outdoors looks GREAT!

I so want a power washer. The yard clean up is on this weekend's agenda, but every year it takes a few weekends in a row to get the entire task accomplished.

Hope you are enjoying your clean space!!!

Wow, your yard looks great! You have an awesome size lot. I wouldn't mind living in the city if we had lots that size. I don't think we'll get any concrete poured this year for a patio, but we will have our covered porch and hopefully a bit of grass. There won't be much landscaping done either but that's okay.

You are AWESOME! Thank you!!! You are much to generous, my sweet friend. Especially when your life is so busy! Hugs!!

Your back yard looks wonderful. We've been doing the same thing these past two weeks, gearing up for a birthday party cookout for my husand this weekend. 25 people, give or take. Can't wait!

Thanks for always encouraging us by DOING -- actions always speak louder than words!!

Ooh! What a perfect gift! Your backyard is lovely! I have a to wait a bit longer to get our yard going (planting my plants) since I'm 9 months pregnant due in a week. But I'm busy enjoying everyone's inspiring ideas! I hope to get started soon! We did have the pool opened today! And the deck has been power washed...We're on our way!!

My absolute favorite gift in the world (okay, besides chocolate) involves other people cleaning any portion of my house, inside OR out.

Love your photos, Sandy. Your place looks spic-n-span, ready for company. Your family is the best!

What a wonderful Mother's Day gift your family gave you ! We have a rather large screened in porch that, during the winter months, takes all kinds of abuse. All manner of stuff just gets dropped there and everything gets covered in cotton field dust and grime. About a month ago we began our "getting ready for summer" rituals -- move all furniture off porch, sweep down the cobwebs(which are plentiful)and wash the dirt off the porch. Then we can put new clean covers on the pillows and cushions and bring out the candles and outdoor lighting -- ready for lots of parties that will go all summer and into late Fall. Wonderful time of year! Enjoy your summer !
