Earthbound Organic Farm Cookbook - GIVEAWAY!

Do you love organic?

Do you love to garden?

Do you love beautiful pictures?

Do you love Earthbound Farm products?

Yes, my family and I live on a city lot.  Yes, we have a garden.

And yes, I was reading through this lovely cookbook in my garden this past Mother's Day weekend.  Heavenly.

We've made the most of our property by putting in raised beds and growing our own produce.

That is why I was thrilled to get my own signed copy of Food to Live By, by Myra Goodman - The Earthbound Farm Organic Cookbook.

And I was given a second SIGNED copy to GIVE AWAY to a lucky 4RE reader!

When it's not gardening season, I buy Earthbound Farm Organic products in the grocery store.  I love the freshness of their produce, and I often buy their bulk-sized packaged lettuce at Costco!

I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes, like the Heirloom Tomato Soup

We love anything with Swiss Chard

Swiss chard is a favorite here as well! Looks like a great cookbook. We are in a new house and said goodbye to our veggie garden of 20 years. Too much to do this year to re-establish one here now but there is a container of swiss chard on the deck as well as our basic favorite herbs. That leaves us all year to dream about the garden that will be.

Oh man, that sounds like a great book. We live across the street from the ocean so salt air, squirrels and artisan water has always been an obstacle for us. But this year my husband has built us a green house. It blocks the salt air, keeps the squirrels out and we control the water. We've already had a salad from it with fresh green beans, lettuce, banana peppers and radishes. We have green bells on their way and even had luck with strawberries. It's our first time with a green house so we are still experimenting.
Blessings to you Sandy.

Hi! We just expanded our raised bed gardens this year. We now have 10. We live in the county and have 1 1/2 acres.I was able to cut spinach and kale this past weekend and it was delicious! This year I'm growing all heirloom plants. We will have tomatoes, pole beans, cucumbers, beets, spinach, kale, onions, carrots, eggplant, peas, zucchini, yellow squash and hopefully 3 kinds of melons. I would rather be outside gardening than almost anything else! The cookbook you are giving away would be a great help to me with all the wonderful veggies I'm looking forward to!

I would love to have a garden and this book! What an awesome giveaway. I live in an upstairs apartment, so no gardening space. I do have a deck and as soon as I'm settled in the apartment I plan to plant some veggies in pots. Not real sure yet how much sun I will have available, so will have to experiment. Due to opening a shop with a friend, as well as my recent move, my "garden" project might have to wait until next year, but it is definitely on my list. ♥

I have a veggie/fruit garden this year for the second time....we have green beans, onions, squash, tomatoes, and 4 kinds of peppers, cucumbers and watermelon....cant wait for it to start coming in.

I am new to the gardening world. We are trying to figure out where in the backyard to put our garden. But I have jump started the gardening with a topsy turvy. The hanging basket upside down that holds the tomatoes so they grow off the ground. It's pretty nice!

I posted your Cookbook giveaway on my website also :)

Oh my how I would love this! We are starting our garden this year though we won't be planting until next year. We take advantage of a local organic CSA. This summer/fall is design and prep time. I want a poteger type garden and it has to be organic. We have a little one with multiple food allergies and we eat food that comes "from God" and not from a chem lab or box. This book looks divine!
Thank you!

We don't have enough property/ know how to plant a real garden, but I do have a couple of pots of herbs growing in my kitchen window sill. This book sounds really wonderful...I am a cookbook addict! :)

I'm a relatively new gardener who lives in the city (we rent a house with two great plots in the backyard) - I'd love to see a post on "The Basics"!

We live in a very rural area, on an acre of land. The site our house is on used to be a gravel pit, so it is VERY sandy & rocky. We've had to put in some raised beds in order to grow anything. Our growing season is so short it's difficult, but I keep trying!! I do have lots of perennial herbs & so far have put in some lettuce & spinach. Looking forward to getting more in soon. The book sounds great! Thanks for the chance to win it!!!

we live in a tiny rural town in the mountains. our growing season is very short but I don't care! I start my plants in the house and then we move them outside to a pretty big garden spot that I have. This year my husband is finally building me some raised beds and I am so excited!

We live in the suburbs of southern California and have a raised garden in our back yard. This year we're growing tomatoes, jalapenos, zucchini, mesclun lettuce, spinach, watermelon, corn, and pumpkins. I keep my garden organic, and love to use seaweed extract and worm castings as fertilizer.

I am new to blogs... information overload! I have seeds to start just a little herb garden in the kitchen window this year (am I the only one starting this late?). Last year I started with a mint plant that from a local farm stand. I couldn't believe how often I actually used it! I would love to start a small raised garden outside! I'm still trying to learn all I can so I can hopefully do it the right way (or at least close to it) the "first" time and be a good steward of the Lord's provisions.

Yum! love cookbooks and need to learn more about organic gardening too! Im renting this year, so need to learn about veggies in pots on the deck...help!

Emily said...

We have a small backyard and bad soil, but I am determined to grow some produce! I've started small and graduated a bit each year ... up to pots with tomatoes, peppers, and not sure what else this year. the book sounds fabulous - right up my alley! =)

I am really wanting to plant a garden, but we have to wait to do anything to our yard until having a drainage channel built into our yard. I can't wait to start growing my own vegetables. I would love to learn more about container gardening, as that is something I could do right now. We have a city lot, but it's still pretty decently sized so I think that in the future I will be able to have a rocking garden. Zucchini grows super well here, and I can't wait for zucchini bread with my own home grown zucchini.

Amy S. said...

I would love to have a garden but feel I lack the space. Plus, the rabbits and squirrels love to feast in my yard. So, I've resorted to potted plants. I've been able to grow tomatoes and various herbs. But, haven't been very successful with other veggies. My boys just told me yesterday that they wanted to plant green beans, onions and peppers. So, I'm going to try and give it a go.

Thanks so much for this giveaway. It looks like a wonderful cookbook!

I have looked at this book numerous times and almost bought it, but always end up putting it back. As far as gardening goes, I tried to make a small area in my backyard last spring. I am NOT used to the soil or climate here in the Midwest at all. Before we moved here, we lived in Guam and growing took very little to no work at all. How I miss that environment!

BrittenRoost said...

We have a decent sized city garden filled with lots of vegetables and utilize fruit plants (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and rhubarb)on the edges. Two days ago we even got chickens.

Sarah said...

We live in the city too. We have 3 raised beds in our backyard and some containers. So far this year everything is growing great, can't wait to eat our own lettuce! And there is nothing like the tate of home grown tomatoes. We also have a big compost bin to keep the cycle going :)

beth said...

Yes, we do have a little garden, and we live in town. We love growing our own groceries! :) It is so fun to go out and harvest things that you have grown in your very own garden. We have planted Indian corn to use as decoration this fall, onions, green peppers, lettuce, peas, green beans, carrots, and parsley. And this year, we plan on growing some cherry tomatoes, so the kids can just go out there and pick some for themselves. It would be great to have that cookbook! I always love having new recipes to try. Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment! :) Have great day!!

What a great giveaway! My husband and I just bought our first house and are moving in two weeks. I'm so excited about the prospect of having a garden! I've started what seedlings I can indoors in our current apartment to transplant later. Gardening in New England is going to be new territory for me, though, since I grew up in the country in Northern CA.

Sandy, I really enjoy your blog and you offer some of the nicest giveaways.
We do live on a city lot (1/10 acre) and have two raised beds and one area sectioned off for things like zucchini. Our biggest obstacles are our semi-arid climate, poor sandy soils and short growing season, but we are trying anyway. I think gardening is great for our young children to witness and help with.

We are city gardeners with country hearts. We have both raised beds and one in ground spot that we expaned this year. Our family loves to garden together. It is such a wonderful way to spend time together getting dirty and enjoying the fruits of our labors too. Hopefully we'll begin planting outside this upcoming weekend.

What a great looking cookbook! We have had about 150 sq.ft. of veggie garden and a container herb garden for the past 4 years. We're adding another 100 sq.ft. of veggie space this year. Nothing is better than preparing meals out of home-grown ingredients.

For Mother's Day, I am "getting a garden" from my husband. I mean, we are putting one in. Currently we are using containers to garden. I am excited, but nervous that I've waited too long in the season. Have I? I live in Texas, where the heat hasn't even hit yet...and it lasts until about October.
I can't wait to get it going!
I hope to win this great cookbook, too!!

How exciting! The book sounds wonderful. . .We have put a small garden in this year. Six 3'x3' patches for vegetables to grow (hopefully!). I have been getting my advice from my mom, who lives in a different state, but has had flower and vegetable gardens for as long as I can remember. My daughters and I are excited to see what grows. . .

We are moving in two months, and I hope to have a garden at our next place. I don't know anything about gardening, really, so a series of Gardening for Dummies would be helpful! The cookbook looks great!

joanne said...

That cookbook looks fantastic! We are gardening in raised bed and planter boxes here just outside of the city.
I've not had swiss chard and quite frankly have no idea what it tastes like or what to do with it. Perhaps I need a cookbook for that ;P

Jenna Z said...

I wouldn't be without a veggie garden! I live in the city and have a 24'x24' corner in the backyard (the only sunny spot) which is divided into four beds. Right now my radishes are looking good, carrots, lettuce, and kale are getting there! Broccoli and brussels sprouts are still wee little things but they will grow and be tasty soon enough. Later this month the peppers (sweet and hot) and tomatoes will go in (they live in the laundry room right now under grow lights. And I will plant my zucchini, squash, cucumber, and pumpkin seeds this month too. I also have a separate herb garden which is round and has TONS of cilantro (my fav), basil, globe basil, dill, chives, sage and catnip.

What a beautiful book, and what a lovely way to spend Mother's Day weekend :) We have quite the vegetable garden as my husband is quite the gardener. Tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cucumbers, melons, lettuces, artichokes . . . and lots of fruit trees, too. It is such fun for me to play in the kitchen with all the fruits of his labors. We make a good team :)

The book does look wonderful!
I live in the city and have an 8x8 raised veggie/fruit garden. I have some raspberries, chives and a rhubarb plant. I plant 5 tomato plants, some green peppers and if I have room I put in some beans. There is a little property behind us that doesn't have a house on it yet and I stole a little bit of land from them last year to plan some squash and cucumbers and plan to do the same this year :)! Love have a garden even if it is small..fresh veggies...YUM!!!

Sounds like a wonderful cookbook! We live in the city in Austin, Texas and we have a garden too. We have two raised planters. I love growing fresh herbs and we grow other vegetables like peppers, squash & zucchini, and tomatoes. Last season was our first to garden and our herbs did wonderfully! Our squash and zucchini did well, but our peppers and tomatoes kept ripening before they grew up, so our roma tomatoes looked more like cherry tomatoes. We haven't been able to figure out why. What do you fill your raised planters with? (dirt wise..)

I would love to win this! We live in a townhouse and only have a small patio in the back, BUT we do have a little "garden"! I have a pot that is growing a tomato plant and also a pot that has a strawberry plant (the berries are starting to turn red and my 18month old can't wait to pick them!) and some herbs. I would really like to learn more about gardening with VERY limited space and am enjoying our first little garden right now.

so I wasn't going to have a garden this year. with a toddler, a job and a whole lot of other things going on - I thought I would skip it. My mom had other ideas for me. She bought me grape tomato plants and told me to AT LEAST grow those and some basil, so I could enjoy our favorite snack throughout the summer :)

great giveaway.

Do I garden? You bet I do! I have everything those cute little bunnies and hungry groundhogs enjoy :-( Growing up my parents had a garden and I had my part in it. Not the best experience - HOWEVER since we have moved to the country I have been gardening for 6years and found great joy & pleasure in doing so!! This year I was very selective when purchasing my seeds, they are all organic and some are organic & heirloom. I can't wait until I harvest my first crop. Looks like the lettuce will be my first. I was envious of your greenhouse and your first cutting of lettuce greens, but then decided that I don’t have to be. I can just work on building (or order) my own!! It’s on my “purchase list” for next year :-)

Thanks so much for your encouraging words on your blog, I read them but I’m not very good at leaving comments. But when you throw in a giveaway! Well I’m all over that. Especially when it has to do with gardening and cooking!!! Thanks again and good luck to me ;-D
