A Savored Bite of Memory!

Sometimes the memories that we create with our kids are possibly a little out of our normal routine.

Like last Saturday night at midnight when my daughter and I made pancakes, and devoured them with homemade raspberry jam.

Now I'm a disciplined girl, usually in bed by 10 and up at 5.  But this particular night we both happened to be out late ... and both starving when we came home.

The boys were gone.  Hubs was away on speaking engagements.  It was just me and Abby in the house, if you don't count the animals. (We do treat them like family-members in our home.)

So, we made pancakes.

We sat together, enjoying every last bite.  It was like we hadn't eaten in a week!

Then the best part came as we crawled into bed together for a cozy mommy-daughter night's sleep.

These moments are rare.  As my kids have gotten older, they're not as snuggly or wanting to sleep with Mommy when Dad is out of town, like they used to!

So when
these moments happen - one-on-one times - I quietly jump for joy inside, trying to savor every second.

It wasn't just the pancakes at midnight that tasted so good last week. Nor was it my homemade raspberry jam.

It was the savored bite of a memory, made with my little girl, that tasted so good.

Do you have special dates with your kids?  Or, would you be willing to share a savored memory that you've recently created?

Thank you for sharing that beautiful moment between you and your girl. My oldest is just 4 but he is such a snuggle bug. I really enjoy our weekend "sleepovers" as he calls them. Snuggling up together and drifting off to sleep with the sweet smell of his hair and the warmth of his tiny hands next to mine. Thank you for the precious reminder...

Happy Sunday!

Oh how I miss my sweet Lindsey snuggling with me. Her dad worked out of town alot and she slept with me up until he finally started working close to home. She was around 18 or 19. She's been married for about a year and a half now and in college.

What a special ritual you two can share. My little guy is only 4 1/2 but we love to cuddle at bedtime with a good book. He loves to get all cozy under the covers. I'm expecting boy #2 in about 6 days and I hope he will become part of our special time too. Time flies by so fast...it's so important to enjoy each moment!

I am with you on savoring moments and making memories.
Our youngest of 6 - daughter is 18 and graduating in a month. I know each day as I wake her for school that this is coming (way to fast for me) to an end. For her it will be no more school. For me, it will be no more kids at home in school. I'm 56 and I've been getting kids off to school since I was 28- I guess you could call that a habit:)
Anyway- I am savoring time with her, knowing that this season is passing fast. And yes, she still crawls in bed with me and watches tv and snoozes:)
Thanks for your post:)

Friday night I enjoyed a night out to watch my nephew's college baseball game, and then it was to IHOP at 10:00 for dinner, and great conversation before our drive home. See my little one is now 21! I still treasure those times with him, and he is constantly encouraging me to grow spiritually. Any time I have with him these days is a sweet memory made. Thanks for sharing with us. Looks like a great time you and your girl had. Have a blessed week! Jackie

We registered my baby for Fall University classes on Thursday. He and I shared the driving. But when he is the driver with a long stretch of road in front of him----something miraculous happens, and the boy starts to talk!! It was a wonderful special time, in spite of the stiffness from sitting for 5 hours!!
Hugs to Sandy!

Thanks for inspiring me to find some special time with my daughter (age 7). I have found less and less time with her since she started school.

We have a special memory in my family when one night after my brother and sister-in-law returned from a trip to the northeast and brought back pumpkin butter, my mom went out to the freezer and brought in a pan of rolls. She popped them in the oven and we sat around the table devouring hot rolls with spicy pumpkin butter. It is such a sweet memory of an impromptu time. She was ready to entertain . . . her family! What a treasured memory to hold forever!

This last weekend was my monthly date night for my son and I. I always so look forward to the "date" nights with my children.

The unplanned moments together are also ones to treasure and remember and I look for those as well!

That is very sweet - I love those spontaneous moments! They usually turn out to be the best memories, too. :)

My kids are now in their late 20's and moved out of course, but one thing I am so glad we did is at least once a week I would crawl in bed with them and we'd talk in the dark, late into the night. Something about it being dark, scratching each others back...they really would open up and share so much of their deepest feelings, goals, frustrations, you name it, I heard it. I learned alot about my childrens friends (good and bad) during these talks too. I tell young parents to start this when their kids are little and stick with it even after they come home for the weekend from college. Great memories!

just found this post via reading *creative mama's* blog. and tears came to my eyes. i have kids that range from 5-19. one night i got a text from my daughter. she was in bed in her room right on the other side of my bedroom wall. she'll be 20 in october. the text asked me to come sleep with her. she had made a horrible mistake. a horrible choice. and she got in trouble. and she was scared and wanted to call me. but she was afraid i would be so mad i wouldn't love her anymore. i went in her room scared myself. what did you do, i asked. she told me. i crawled in bed. we talked from 1am-4am. we laughed in the midst of a bad choice. i knew that at the age of 40, it would take me all weekend (it was friday) to recover from being up all night. but it was a memory. a memory of a child making a very bad choice. but feeling loved and reassured that life would go on. simply because mommy was in bed with her!
