I Can Say Yes!

Meet my Guest:

Kristen from We Are THAT Family!

I felt a connection with Kristen the minute I met her in Nashville. Not only do we both share a love for our families, but I get her humor!  You see, I live with a very witty husband and my children have all taken after him!  Kristen doesn't hold anything back, and in her loving, honest way, she gives of herself to others through her beautiful writing and the funny stories that she shares on her blog.

Her posts always make me smile and I'm sure many of you will be able to relate to her story about being a reluctant entertainer!

"Honey, let's invite our friends over for dinner!"

These words of my extroverted, engaging hubby make me stop in my tracks.

I have never thought of myself as an entertainer. The gift of hospitality is sometimes lost to this introvert. I am reluctant.

But  I love the laughter and the fellowship that flows with such a suggestion.

And so I do what comes naturally: I pretend like I don't hear him.

I know me, very well. And my 7th grade maturity has gotten me far in life.

But my hubby is keen. He's on to me. I know I am quick to turn away entertaining opportunities.

A quick scan of my toddler decorated living room and a mental rundown of frantic cleaning and cooking lend me to push the idea away.

And I have been known to miss lovely opportunities.

In the last year, I've done a lot of entertaining in my home. I think I've finally realized that entertaining doesn't have to be fine dining. You don't have to use the good plates and goblets. You can serve on paper and holiday napkins. You can buy your dessert (gasp) as long as it's delicious.

You can stop being reluctant.

I've realized it's not about the food. It's about what happens while your eating.

I keep a lovely lemon cake in the freezer, nearly at all times. I stick some pretty paper plates with matching napkins that I've scored from the Target clearance end cap in the back of my pantry. I keep a basket full of tasty coffee selections for my 'one cup at a time' coffee pot.

And I say yes.

And I say yes to being a guest at Kristen's house!

Many of you may know how Shannon (Rocks in my Dryer) started Works for me Wednesday a long time ago.  Well,  she has handed over this awesome weekly blog carnival that has helped so many women over the years, to Kristen!

So make sure and check out We are THAT Family on Wednesdays to join in.

My friend Erin from $5 Dollar Dinners is going to be on the Rachael Ray Show TODAY!  Tune in at 4 pm to see Erin LIVE!

I love that you are transparent and model "reluctant" entertaining......what you are really doing is being obedient by practicing hospitality....who doesn't love that??? Thanks!

Perhaps I wasn't transparent enough---

My delicious lemon cake can be found in the bakery at Sam's Club for the very low price of $5.95! So, you can add frugal cheater in front of the word reluctant!

Seriously yummy and tastes homemade if that counts for anything.....

Saying yes is so much more fun! :) Great idea about keeping dessert in the freezer...I need to work up to being that prepared!

This year I finally realized that it wasn't about the fancy spread or matching dishes, it was about the people and as you said Kristen "what happens while you're eating." After that realization, we have been entertaining so much more. We count it as a ministry to our friends and family :)

Amen Kristen! I'd come over to your house anytime. And I'd bring my famous Costco prepared meal to go with that Sam's Club cake!
