I Love my New Tablecloth!

Last week I hosted my daughter’s soccer team, for an afternoon of swimming and snacks.

What can withstand squished brownies, watermelon juice, chips, cookie crumbs and spilled soda?

My new tablecloth!

I have to tell you I splurged on this beauty, but I used my birthday money to purchase it. When the lady in the kitchen store explained the benefits to me, I said, “SOLD!” I couldn’t pass it up, especially with the amount of entertaining that we do, oftentimes with kids.

This oilcloth from Provence Linens is so superb – you just wipe it down with a sponge and it’s like new (check out the link, my poppy tablecloth is 3 rows down). It’s perfect for everyday use at home, or an outdoor party on a picnic table – or like I used it for recently: A SOCCER PARTY!

What I love is that it will not fade and it is are water and stain resistant because of the acrylic-coated cotton. The coating can withstand many wash cycles, provided mild temperatures are used. It requires only occasional washing.

Besides, I would have to agree that it looks like linen, and much better than that old vinyl or plastic kind.

So, after swimming.

And badminton.

And freeze dancing.

And eating.

I’d say this tablecloth withstood the test. I cleared off the table, wiped it down, and it looked like new.

What do you think? Don’t you think a girl needs to splurge occasionally?

I say, “Yes!” Especially when it’s a tablecloth!

(My linen closet full of tablecloths – many from thrift stores, Good Will, yard sales, gifts from precious friends, and favorite stores like Ross or TJ Maxx).

So pretty and practical. My DP and I were just chatting last night that our cloth tablecloths make it about one full day at our house before needing to be thrown back in the laundry.

Your new one looks exactly like what we've been needing for a long time. I'm headed over there to check it out and see if they have one to fit our round table.

Hey, that is worth the splurge! I hate those vinyl/plastic jobs. We have NO tablecloths. I had a large piece of glass cut to fit the top of my dining room table. Lots of times we slip things between the glass and the table – like cut paper snowflakes – for decoration.
Looks like the girls had a great time, by the way.

Ha! My grandparents live 5 miles from the tablecloth store. Cazenovia is a completely gorgeous small town. Great farmer's market, fantastic homes, a beautiful lake... I have spent so much time in that town. Perhaps next time I am home visiting I will stop in Lavender Blue and check out the tablecloths. They look like they are absolutely stunning.

Enjoy the new cloth - it sounds perfect for you guys!

okay Sandy you have stirred in me a desire for aprons and table cloths! Of which I don't think I own any! Can't wait to be in my new house and use these things. Maybe I'll even take a bit of my garage sale money and go on a search for one. Whoo Hoo. I have a wonderful dresser that I love...I actually think I posted a picture of it earlier in the fall, that eventually I want to paint and use to store linens and such! Have to get a new bedroom set first though.

Hi there!

I love the new tablecloth and I love your blog!! I am the person you have described in your profile description - desperately want to entertain but am too intimidated by it. Afraid that everything might not be "just so". Therefore, finding your blog has been a blessing to me and I think I'm going to learn lots from you by reading your blog!

PS - I'm fairly new to canning but made and canned some delicious peach butter last year. I'm looking forward to expanding my recipes and canned fruits this summer. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Fabulous new tablecloth. I felt guilty for having 8 tablecloths but not any more. I adore your idea of having them in a closet. It makes so much sense. Sorry to have missed you in Portland.

First time visiting your blog - and found myself staying around for quite a long visit. Of course, I had to chuckle about the tablecloth - my son is getting married in two weeks and my husband and I are hosting the rehearsal dinner. Long story but I did purchase 6 beautiful floral vinyl tablecloths ( 2/5.00) at our local store - don't you just LOVE a bargain! I noticed you can fruits and veggies. I also love the PING sound. Any tips for canning dill pickles? They didn't come out as crisp as I had hoped.

I haven't seen that fabric and will now look for it. I do have quite a pile - oops! collection! - of wonderful old tablecloths tho. Yes, I use a tablecloth every day.

My love language too... I love how you store your table cloths. I have mine folded in a dresser, but I think hanging them is even better, because they wont get wrinkled after I've pressed them!

I love your new table cloth. I may have to get one for my kitchen!!
