FOCUS ... and 16 years today!

A couple is called together to make the world a better place!

Little did Paul or I know about love and commitment 16 years ago today, when we pledged our lives to one another. We’ve learned through the years that our partnership was not just about “us” but about how we help one another, individually and together, in making our world a better place.

Paul’s work has become my work, and my work his work, as we support each other and share each other’s passions.

One of my passions is cooking for others and practicing hospitality, and Paul has learned to be right there, sharing the experience with me. Paul’s passion is writing and speaking, and I have been his biggest fan!

It is hardly surprising that couples with a loving relationship are more likely to extend love outward to others.

How ironic that our visit out to Colorado Springs last October, to meet Dr. James Dobson, from Focus on the Family, aired first yesterday and now the second part today, on our anniversary!

If you want to check out the Focus interviews on No More Christian Nice Guy and Married but Not Engaged, you can listen in on your Focus on the Family radio station, or go here.

(See Commandment #4, a post about Dr. Dobson and perfectionism relating to hospitality.)

It's a great, thoughtful discussion on Focus, both programs. I luv how Dr Dobson talks so lovingly about his wife Shirley! Very appropriate considering it's your anniversary today too! Happy 16th and many more to come!!!

Thanks, Paul & Sandy, for your work and honesty. I'm married to a "Christian Nice Guy" and sent him the links to the radio program and books. Do you guys do house calls?! Happy anniversary!

Sandy and Paul,

Happy Anniversary! We're a couple years behind you, but our wedding photos look similar.

How exciting that your broadcast aired today on your special day. Hope you have something planned to celebrate.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Not sure how you found me, but I'm so glad you did! I've enjoyed reading through some of your previous posts. I'm loving the sound of your two books and will have to check them out.

And Dr. Dobson???!!! Hello! THAT, my friend, is IM-PRES-SIVE!

I will be checking in on you often!

I really think that you have a book in the making here on this blog. So many entertaining books do focus on the superfiacial stuff such as the table setting, and neglect what really makes entertaining seem unatainable, the uncertainty about really connecting. This blog has the whole package, the pretty table and the heartfelt understanding of what it takes to build community!

Between Wild at Heart and No More Christian Nice Guy, my "I don't read" Not-So-Classic Husband has been transformed. :) He was always wonderful, but now he is wonderfully placed where God has Him, not just because He couldn't say no, but because he was seeking the Lord. Thank you. :)

How wonderful to have that air on your 16th anniversary. After listening to the programs, what a testimony it is to see where you started and where God has brought you!! God truly is the creator of all things new.

I so thoroughly enjoyed the programs and have been telling everyone I can about them. The message is such an important one!!

Blessings to you friend and "Happy Anniversary"!

Happy Anniversary you two!
When I read Barb's comment about the Dobson show, I immediately listened to the first one and was sooo excited to hear your voice Sandy! I loved hearing about the book! Sooo interesting and sooo true! I am looking forward to listening to the second part.
As far as my job, I am a part-time reception (15 hrs. weekly) at the church my husband is the pastor at! And after 25 years as a stay-at-home Mom!! I am loving it!! The perfect job and at just the perfect time in my life!

Sandy! I'm so happy to congratulate you & Paul on 16 years of marriage! That is so wonderful. And I am going to listen to that Dr. Dobson show too, can't wait to do that. Thanks for sharing the anniversary with us. Our 2nd one is coming up next week. I envy those of you who got it right the first time. I unfortunately did not.

xoxo,
